To maintain and improve environmental management system (EMS) and measure environmental performance at the B2Gold Otjikoto Mine.
Job description

Environmental Compliance
  • Adhere to and support all company related policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance to local and international legal requirements, corporate requirements and best management practice
  • Actively promote and communicate B2Gold Environmental and Biodiversity policies
  • Ensure implementation of permit conditions and national standards for mine operations
 
Environmental Management System
  • Assist with the implementation of the environmental requirements of the HSE Management system
  • Assist with the reviews and updates of Departmental risk registers
  • Create environmental awareness to all employees and contractors at Otjikoto Mine
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to monitor and evaluate compliance to applicable environmental requirements
  • Compile incident records and report on non-conformance/compliance. Track corrective action process to completion where necessary
 
Environmental Performance
  • Implement and provide compliance support on the Environmental and Biodiversity performance standards
  • Ensure that all monitoring and measurement complies with all statutory requirements
  • Ensure quality control and assurance on all information collected on site
  • Ensure quality sampling, accurate data collection, record keeping and reporting and accurate data interpretation
  • Ensure all measuring equipment and instruments are regularly maintained and calibrated
  • Monitor operations of the Bio-remediation treatment and landfill sites to ensure conformance to procedure
  • Assist consultants, specialists and authorities with field work and assessments
  • Conduct field work on neighbouring farms when necessary
  • Conduct “hands-on” field training with the Environmental Technicians and Assistants where necessary
 
Closure and Rehabilitation
  • Assist on progressive rehabilitation when necessary
  • Ensure monitoring and measurement on closure and rehabilitation is maintained in the operations
  • Assist with information collection of the Otjikoto Mine liability estimates (ARO)
 
Administration and Budget
  • Assist with budgeting requirements for field consumables and equipment
  • Ensure monitoring supplies are adequate and well controlled
  • Submit requests for supplies and stock items
  • Request for Jobs and Maintenance Services through the Engineering Maintenance System
  • Manage the inventory and equipment register of the section
  • Maintain the document control and calibration register of the environmental section
 
Safety, Health and Environment
  • Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum B.Sc. Degree in Environmental Management (NQF Level 6)
  • Minimum 4 years’ environmental management experience in the mining industry or large-scale construction project
  • Valid Code B Driver’s License 
  • Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO14001:2015 is an advantage
