Job description
OHS Effectiveness
- Direct resources and activities of the department to support the OHSE programs.
- Review internal Health & Safety policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate.
- Conduct hazard and risk assessments and change existing or develop new recommendations from these assessments.
- Monitor and report compliance and non-compliance to applicable standards, laws and regulations.
- Assist the operations in investigations of all incidents and ensure proper records are completed and submitted.
- Assist in implementation of corrective actions as it relates to the incident and ensure “lessons learned” are communicated throughout the organization and are incorporated into the program, if necessary.
- Supervise and coordinate training programs or media aimed at increasing proficiency in safety practices and promoting OHS consciousness.
- Ensure all regulatory monitoring and reporting are completed on time and within budget.
- Stay abreast of current and emerging technical and professional aspects within the field.
- Manage the implementation and ongoing sampling requirements of the site Occupational Hygiene Program.
- Compile and submit regular written reports and updates to the Health & Safety Manager.
Subordinates Effectiveness
- Mentor and develop subordinates in accordance with the succession plan and talent management principles.
- Conducts regular reviews on outputs achieved.
- Document annual agreed upon performance targets linked towards the business strategy.
- Support and enable team to ensure ongoing high-quality HSE support services to the site.
Safety, Health and Environment Effectiveness
- Direct site, department and area specific inductions - Safety, Security, HR, Admin, Environmental, Mining, etc. inductions vital to the performance of duties and obligations.
- Wear and maintain the PPE appropriate to the task and area while on duty.
- Complete Core Safety training modules which includes but are not limited to: HIRA, JSA, Pre-Task Risk Assessments etc.
- Seek environmental advice and assistance when necessary.
- Complete and update changes on the Employee Information Form at the site clinic as soon as you arrive on site/start working on site.
- Adhere to requests or instructions for Injury on Duty cases.
- Implement, maintain and improve the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System for both underground operations and open pit operations.
- Actively participate in the implementation and improvement of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) Management System.
- Oversee and report on department performance target progress.
- Submit monthly reporting requirements to Chamber of Mines.
- Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12
- Minimum Technical Diploma in Health & Safety Management (NQF Level 6)
- Additional COMSOC 1,2,3 qualification would be an advantage
- Minimum 10 years’ working experience within an operating mine environment with 5 year’s working experience at an Occupational Health & Safety Management level
- Valid Code B Driver’s License
