Introduction
The primary purpose is to provide emergency response to the critically ill and injured person on site (Patient Care) and to ensure emergency and rescue support such as firefighting and mine rescue on site while acting within the appropriate level of knowledge, skills and expertise.
Job description

Emergency Response and Management
  • Respond, provide and manage emergency response, medical care and rescue across all business departments and projects
  • Respond to and manage fire and rescue emergency situations / scenes as the responding team leader and debrief emergency crew
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of patient report forms and emergency response forms
  • Perform airfield inspections, ground communications and emergency standby pertaining to medical, fire and mine rescue
  • Respond to snake capturing calls, capture and relocate to identified snake release areas
  • Response to emergencies within a 30km radius of the mine site upon management approval
  • Actively support other departments in emergency management services
  • Undertake training as the company may require in order to develop/maintain appropriate knowledge, skills and expertise in field of operation
  • Complete all company and legal documentation essential in the completion of duties, and ensure that copies of such documentation are submitted timeously
  • Execute any other duties as required by the Department as per scope of practice, qualification and experience
Departmental Inspections
  • Perform weekly inspections on vehicles and equipment to ensure they are kept clean and in a permanent state of readiness
  • Perform monthly inspections on site equipment
  • Raise action in cases where inspections highlight defaults/ damages to relevant department and follow up on corrective actions

Coordinate and Present Training
  • Perform training of Emergency response teams and core module training
  • Conduct fire drills, evacuation and mine rescue training
  • Book training venue, equipment and permits when required
  • Review and ensure training material is up to date
  • Present training to B2Gold staff as per schedule
  • Mark and evaluate practical and theory exam papers, record on system and provide feedback to individual
  • Prepare and present ad-hoc additional awareness training related to clinical services and rescue procedures

Health, Safety and Environmental.
  • Compliance to the B2Gold Golden Rules
  • Maintain a safe working environment, and keeping the assigned work area clean and tidy
  • Complete site and area specific inductions
  • Complete Core Safety training modules which include but are not limited to: Pre-Task Risk Assessments etc.
  • Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum Certificate in Intermediate Life Support (NQF Level 5)
  • FFA 1 and 2 Certificate
  • Aircraft rescue firefighting Certificate will be an added advantage
  • Certificate in Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations
  • Minimum 3 years operational experience as a paramedic, including structural firefighting experience
  • Code C1/CE driver’s license with a valid PDP
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of Namibia
  • Up to date CPD registration (no pending CPD requirements with the HPCNA)
  • Remote site and primary health care operations experience will be an advantage
