The Environmental General worker is responsible for providing general support to the Environmental Department.
Job description

Waste management
  • Cleaning up and disposal of hazardous material/waste.
  • Separation of recyclable waste and storage of other wastes at the landfill.
  • Collection of domestic and industrial waste from all designated areas on site.
  • Incineration of waste and associated activities.
 
Soil Remediation
  • Provide support to the bioremediation team and its activities as instructed by the supervisor.
 
Gardening and landscaping
  • Carry out soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, bed preparation and planting.
  • Assist with watering plants and lawns as required.
 
Land Rehabilitation
  • Collect seeds and relocate seedlings to rehabilitated areas.
  • Provides water to seedlings as per the watering protocol.
  • Assists with the installation of measures to protect against erosion.
  • Repairs and maintains rehabilitated areas.
  • Assist with nursery activities as required.

Safety, Health and Environment

  • Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Comply with the B2Gold Golden Rules, Code of Conduct and all Policies.
  • Actively participate in safety and toolbox meetings, and conduct a monthly safety inspection of the work area based on the schedule set by Management.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, and keep the assigned work area clean and tidy.
  • Report all unsafe acts and conditions, injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near-miss incidents to the supervisor promptly.
  • Wear and maintain the PPE appropriate to the task and area while on duty.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10
  • Code B driver’s licence
  • Experience in a mining environment will be an advantage
  • Heavy machinery operator certificate will be an advantage
