Introduction
The purpose of this position is to technically guide, plan and manage the logistics of the Grade Control RC drilling program.
Job description
Performing Grade Control tasks
• Plan drilling holes and drilling schedules, including overseeing the execution of the drilling schedules
• Participate in short and medium-term mine planning
• Ensure that drill patterns are properly marked out
• Ensure adequate drilling coverage of ore zones
• Log drill chipping and core into the database
• Ensure proper preparation of drilling sites before drilling commences
• Produce progress reports on the drilling process and schedule
• Analyse and interpret geological data using computer software such as MineSight and Leapfrog
• Produce Grade Control models in time for ore mark-up generation
• Undertake data analysis to improve understanding of grade distributions and controls on mineralisation
• Ensure grade control estimation and ore perimeter designs to incorporate all available relevant assay and drill hole logging data
• Ensure that drilling and assays are in sequence with the mining plan
• Undertake ore loss and dilution control studies, including reconciliation, to understand the impact of decisions taken during grade control estimation
• Perform other duties as required in support of the Company objectives
Safety, Health and Environment
• Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures
• Actively participate in safety and toolbox meetings and conduct a monthly safety inspection of the work area
• Report all unsafe acts and conditions as well as injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near-miss incidents to the supervisor promptly
• Wear and maintain the PPE appropriate to the task and area while on duty
Minimum requirements
• Minimum Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
• Minimum B Degree in Geology (NQF Level 7)
• Minimum three years relevant experience
• Code B driver’s license
