Introduction
The Earthmoving Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing earthmoving machinery, mobile equipment, support equipment, and infrastructure to ensure equipment availability for production requirements.
Job description

Location and reporting structure

This position will be based at the Otjikoto Mine and will report directly to the Maintenance Foreman.    
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine, specialised repair and maintenance work.
  • Perform daily inspections and report defects identified during inspection.
  • Provide accurate service information for completion of maintenance records.
  • Recover, troubleshoot, and repair broken-down earthmoving equipment from an open pit or in the field as quickly as possible.
  • Communicate machine ready to pit control as soon as repairs are completed.
  • Test drive all machines as appropriate.
  • Ensure all special tools and equipment used during the shift are cleaned and returned to the tool store by the end of the shift.
Safety, Health and Environment 
  • Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Comply with the Namibian Mining Act (Labour Act, Ordinance, Minerals Act, and Explosives Act) and Regulations clauses applicable to your work area.
  • Actively participate in implementing and improving the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) Management System.

Minimum requirements

C

·         Minimum Grade 12/N3 with four (4) relevant technical subjects & Diesel Mechanic trade certificate / Earthmoving Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate

·         Minimum three (3) years extensive experience working on earthmoving equipment

·         Experience in an Open Cast Mining Environment

·         Valid Code BE driver’s license

·         Code CE /CE will be an advantage

·         Knowledge and experience of CAT Service Information System (SIS) and CAT Electronic Technician (ET) diagnostic software will be highly advantageous

·         Willing to work overtime, shifts and standby duties
