Introduction
The Mine Geologist is responsible for conducting mapping, drilling and sampling in the underground mining operations at Otjikoto to support optimal extraction of the resource.
Job description
Geological Functions
- Conduct geological mapping, including structure, lithology, stratigraphy, etc., of all underground development headings.
- Supervise and coordinate underground diamond drilling activities.
- Conduct core logging and sampling and supervise all core yard activities.
- Conduct grab and core sampling with the assistance of Geological Assistants.
- Update the underground geological model, including lithological and structural interpretations, using mapping and diamond drill hole data.
- Conduct regular inspections of development headings and determine ore, low-grade, or waste classification.
- Communicate geological information to relevant mining and technical personnel to support planning, optimal mining operations, and scheduling.
- Monitor and track ore movement and produce reconciliation reports.
- Attend to ROM pad requests and metal sorting activities.
- Perform other duties as required in support of company objectives.
Database Functions
- Capture and store geological data.
- Assist the Database Geologist with database management and the maintenance of data integrity.
- Assist the Database Geologist in conducting Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes and reporting.
Safety, Health and EnvironmentÂ
- Comply with the B2Gold Golden Rules, Code of Conduct and all Policies.
- Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings and conduct a monthly safety inspection of the work area based on the schedule set by Management.
- Maintain a safe working environment and keep the assigned work area clean and tidy.
- Report all unsafe acts and conditions as well as injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near-miss incidents to the supervisor timeously.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12
- Honours Degree in Geology (NQF Level 8)
- Minimum 3-5 years of mine geology or exploration experience
- Valid Code B driver’s license
