Introduction
The Assistant Security Officer is responsible for assisting in ensuring effective access control of people and goods at Otjikoto Mine.
Job description

Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Ensuring that all employees, contractors, suppliers, and/or visitors entering the mine and High Security Areas are authorised to enter the property, and that personal goods, items, and materials are declared.
  • Ensuring that all vehicles entering and exiting the mine and High Security Areas have authorising documentation and comply with safety requirements.
  • Ensuring that all materials, tools, and equipment have the authorising documentation to enter or exit the mine.
  • Ensuring that personnel and vehicles are searched to prevent the unauthorised removal of goods from the mine property.
  • Reporting any suspicious activities to the Senior on duty for further investigation.
  • Ensuring that no physical item exits the mine property without the necessary authorising documentation.
  • Maintaining an accurate materials, tools, and equipment register at the entrance gate.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient management of access control activities and services
  • Assist in the random alcohol and drug testing of personnel.
  • Conducting regular patrols, by vehicle and/or on foot, around the mine site, as directed by the Shift Senior, to observe irregular movements or conditions.
  • Partaking in the banking run, ensuring effective security.
  • Partake in the Gold run, as and when required, ensuring effective security.
  • Providing assistance/relief at the Access Control Office as and when required.
Health, Safety and Environmental
  • Comply with the B2Gold Golden Rules, Code of Conduct and all Policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings and conduct a monthly safety inspection of the work area based on the schedule set by Management.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, and keep the assigned work area clean and tidy.
  • Report all unsafe acts and conditions as well as injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near-miss incidents to the supervisor timeously.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 - (NQF Level 4)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a security and/or policing environment
  • A valid Code B driver’s license
  • A Valid Firearms training certification
  • A Valid Police Certificate of Good Conduct
