Introduction
Fitter and Turner Graduates will be engaged on a fixed-term, project-based assignment within B2Gold Otjikoto Mine’s Maintenance Services to support the execution of specific project activities. The role will provide hands-on exposure and practical experience, enabling the incumbent to apply and further develop technical skills relevant to Fitter and Turner functions within a project environment.
Job description
- Assist with installation, assembly, and alignment of mechanical equipment and components as part of project activities.
- Support pipe installation projects, including alignment, fitting, and assembly of mechanical systems.
- Participate in crusher and screen installations, including fitting, alignment, and mechanical setup.
- Assist with transportation, positioning, and installation of mechanical components on-site.
- Read and interpret technical drawings to ensure accurate installation and alignment of equipment. Assist with overhaul, repair, installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment and components.
- Assist with fitting, alignment, and adjustment of mechanical equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, pulleys, and rotating machinery during installation.
- Support inspection of installed equipment to ensure correct setup and functionality before commissioning.
- Perform basic fault finding and adjustments during installation and commissioning phases.
- Assist with the preparation and assembly of components and spares required for project execution.
- Use hand tools and measuring equipment to assemble, adjust, and align mechanical systems. Assist with the inspection of operational equipment [pumps, belts, pulleys, rollers, mills, gearboxes, compressors, etc.] for signs of wear and tear and malfunctions.
- Clean, adjust and maintain equipment, using hand tools as required.
- Identify hazards and inform the supervisor to put controls in place to minimise risks.
- Assist with building spare parts and components to be available for replacement during breakdowns

- Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings and conduct a monthly safety inspection of the work area based on the schedule set by Management.
- Maintain a safe working environment and keep the assigned work area clean and tidy.
- Report all unsafe acts and conditions as well as injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near-miss incidents to the supervisor timeously.
Minimum requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) / N3 with 4 relevant technical subjects and a Trade Diploma – Fitter and Turner (NQF Level 6), not older than 18 months from date of qualification
- No previous work experience is required.
- A Valid Code B driver’s license.
