Introduction
The Emergency Response Intern will support the Emergency Response Officers in delivering emergency, medical, fire, rescue, and hazardous materials response services on-site. The role will provide practical exposure and learning opportunities while contributing to emergency preparedness, response readiness and compliance with health and safety standards.
Job description

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in responding to medical, fire, and rescue emergencies across site operations.
  • Assist in maintaining emergency response equipment, protective gear, and facilities in a state of readiness.
  • Assist with airfield inspections, ground communications, and emergency standby for medical, fire, and mine rescue operations.
  • Assist in responding to emergencies within a 30km radius (CSR) upon management when required and approved. 
  • Participate in required training to develop knowledge, skills, and competence. 
  • Assist the Emergency Response Officers with inspections of emergency vehicles, equipment and related resources. 
  • Support preparation of training materials and logistical arrangements.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering ad hoc awareness sessions related to clinical services and rescue procedures.
  • Assist in coordinating and supporting emergency response training, fire drills, evacuation exercises, and mine rescue activities
Health, Safety and Environment
 
  • Comply with the B2Gold Golden Rules, Code of Conduct and all Policies
  • Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings and conduct a monthly safety inspection of the work area based on the schedule set by Management.
  • Report all unsafe acts and conditions as well as injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near-miss incidents to the supervisor timeously.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 (NQF Level 4)
  • Intermediate Life Support (ILS) or equivalent qualification
  • Basic Fire Fighting Certification
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 & 2 (Advantageous)
  • HAZMAT awareness (Advantageous)
  • No prior experience required
  • Any exposure to emergency response, firefighting, or medical services will be an added advantage
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPCNA)
  • A valid Code C1 driver’s license will be an added advantage.
