Introduction
The Strata Control Operator will support the Strata Control Officer by collecting, recording, verifying, storing and reporting geotechnical and strata control data to assist with underground ground stability monitoring, excavation support verification and safe mining operations.
Job description
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct and assist with photogrammetry mapping activities.
- Conduct line mapping and record orientations of geological discontinuities.
- Identify and report abnormal ground conditions, unsupported areas, geological structures and water seepage to the Strata Control Officer.
- Reconcile installed ground support against approved support standards and mapping requirements.
- Store, maintain and archive mapping data and records.
- Assist with geotechnical logging of diamond drill core, including identifying and recording rock quality, geological structures and geotechnical characteristics.
- Capture and input collected geotechnical data into relevant database systems.
- Conduct point load and/or UCS sample preparation and testing in accordance with established procedures.
- Compile daily, weekly and monthly reports as required and maintain accurate geotechnical records and data archives.
- Ensure field data is collected, recorded and captured accurately and timeously.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (NQF Level 4).
- Diploma / Degree in Geology or Mining will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of two (2) years' mining experience in geotechnical, geological, ground support, strata control or related mining technical environments.
- Exposure to underground mining operations will be an added advantage.
- A Valid Code B Driver's License.
- Computer literacy in MS Office Suite.
